I have checked your papers. Reread your papers. Check that you have followed the style sheet. In particular, you should check that you have indented the first line of your paragraph. Check that your paragraph has a good topic sentence. The topic sentence should be a general statement that states a clear opinion. Also, remember that a paragraph has only one main idea. After that look for overgeneralisations. Below are some examples of overgeneralisations:
- "All Canadians are polite" - many Canadians are polite, but some are not. These statements are better: "Some Canadians are polite" or "Canadians are known to be polite"
- "Only Japan has four seasons" - actually this is just plain wrong!
- "People from other countries can't eat natto" - I know some Americans, and Australians that love natto.
Ok, please write your second draught. Please print it and put it in a folder with your first draught. Then submit it to my mailbox on the 4th floor of the Foreign Language Centre.
