Hello everyone, welcome to the University of Tsukuba!

This semester, we will read and discuss the biography (伝記) of a third-generation Japanese-Canadian (カナダ日系三世) ice hockey player called Paul Tetsuhiko Kariya (狩谷ポール哲彦). In Canada, ice hockey is just called hockey. Maybe you have never seen a hockey game. Let's watch a video showing some exciting moments in hockey.

Pretty exciting, eh? I love hockey! Let's watch another video. This video shows highlights from Paul Kariya's career.

You will learn a lot of new vocabulary in this class. We will study vocabulary using an online vocabulary learning tool called Quizlet.
